The still, small voice

By Arthur Webster of Ask Old Coot

As the hysterical old women of the senate enquiry into the release, on compassionate grounds, of Abdel Basset al-Megrahi continues, one still, small voice is being ignored.

I can understand the desire of the senate to be seen to be trying to avenge the BP oil disaster but things have really got out of hand. Accidents happen and, usually, the causes of the accident are investigated in order to prevent repetitions. In the BP case, the causes of the accident have been relegated to somewhere on the benches while personal attacks are fired off in all directions to try to apportion blame and seek vengeance.

The senate enquiry is nothing but a smoke screen to disguise the fact that there is no central, co-ordinated investigative effort taking place to determine cause. Almost from the instant of the initial explosion, there has been a sustained attack on individual members of the BP board (none of whom were directly involved in the operation of the rig) which became formally adopted when Obama decided he was going to identify an individual and 'kick his butt'. (Very diplomatic language).

To try to make the release of al Megrahi part of some wierd conspiracy theory, bearing in mind the hysteria that had been created already, was almost an inevitable consequence of the personality witch hunt. It seems that the physical and mechanical causes of the accident are a small side issue of little or no importance.

al-Megrahi has certainly given the senate a rallying point and their impudent demands of a sovereign government will continue to receive, I hope, the contempt that they so richly deserve.

Meanwhile, for those who will hear, there is a still, small voice being drowned out by the hysterical cackling. The voice of Dr. Jim Swire.

Dr. Swire wants to have enquiries made into the treatment that al-Megrahi has received to extend his life expectancy from 3 months to a year (and counting). Dr. Swire sees al-Megrahi's survival as an opportunity to develop better treatments for prostate cancer. Dr. Swire's protests are being ignored and his professional interest in the case is being discouraged. It would appear that to imagine that Libyan medical science is more effective or more advanced than British and US medical science is tantamount to treason and yet, al-Megrahi is testimony to the fact that whatever treatment he has received has worked.

Contributor's Note

Dr. Swire is one of a number of people who believe that al-Megrahi was framed and used as a scapegoat.
He is probably worth listening to because he has no reason to take the side of al-Megrahi - - - - his daughter, Fiona, died in the Lockerbie bombing.

Unless you've read about or remember the Lockerbie bombing, this intel would be hard to understand.

Hi, Andrew,
Considering the extremely high profile being granted to the impertinent Senate enquiry and the major accusations against BP in respect of al-Megrabi's release, I'm very surprised you don't know about this.

The title says nothing about the content, I assumed it would be about kids or depression

The content is about the still, small voice of reason being swamped by the maniacal cacklings of those who should know better.
It is about the still small voice crying out for information about a possible treatment régime that could prolong the lives of many prostate cancer sufferers.
It is about the still small voice that no-one is listening to because they don't ordinarily look at political issues - hence my title.

"I'm very surprised you don't know about this."

I did but many might not, certainly not in 6 months or a few years. Further, any communication deserves an introduction.

Hi, Andrew,
The whole point of this intel was to raise the issue of irrelevances being used to stifle sincere communication.

al-Megrahi is only the catalyst causing the Senate hate machine to swing into action and raise a smoke screen to hide the true motivations. There is always an al-Megrahi or a 'BP' executive that can be used to divert attention away from the voice of reason.

This intel is really allegorical because you can see the dead hands of our political masters involved in just about everything that is detrimental to our welfare.

Thus is life, Someone needs to be the scapegoat. It is al-Megrahi's destiny to be this scapegoat or else he would not be in this situation.

The BP disaster needs heads to roll to satisfy the wanton revenge of the people. This is just the way of humanity.

80% of the people are too stupid to clean their own backsides after a visit to the small room, yet they know vengeance is a good thing. It leads to closure.

Small pitiful lonely voices in the wilderness are generally heard only by people wandering that selfsame wilderness.

I must admit I never really understood the connection (if any) between BP, the oil disaster spill, and al-Megrahi. People do sometimes live longer than the prognosis they are given when they are diagnosed with a condition such as cancer. As for the senate demanding the attendance of some politicians that's a joke.

The connection was always very tenuous and was not made until the mass hysteria in the Senate got into full swing. It was really Obama's stated intent to 'kick some butt' that created the opinion among the brain dead numbnuts that BP might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb. From there, inventing a 'deal' with Libya to secure oil rights was almost inevitable. The problem is, Senate generated rumours and blatant lies are treated as facts so the witch hunt got under way (remember Sadam's WMDs?).

My prognosis of 6 hours, 43 years ago did give rise to quite a few extra examinations as my 'borrowed time' kept expanding - fortunately I did not go to the Middle east until several years later and USA, at that time, had no real interest in Aden.
