So, he can talk sense!
By Arthur Webster of Ask Old Coot
At last David Cameron has said something with which every citizen of the European Union will be in accord. The €140billion ($181billion) EU budget must be cut, he says. Obviously, as a junior partner (he will never live that one down) but major contributer, the UK should have been monitoring EU spending as a matter of routine from the first day of profligate spending. The millions spent in meetings and travelling expenses to decide the shape of the EU meeting table BEFORE a single meeting had taken place, was surely the alarm bell that all concerned should have been aware of. As those elected to serve in the European Parliament were exposed as, primarily, those who had failed to get elected to their own national parliaments or any authoritative body within their own country, another alarm should have started ringing. I have no idea how many locations the EU Parliament meets in but could any reasonably competent administrator REALLY have justified a multiplicity? It beggars belief that the EU parliament regularly up-roots itself to attend at different locations, imposing massive costs as the huge staff and associated entourages relocate. It would be very interesting to know to whom the EU is responsible. It seems to me that it is nothing but a huge pacman beast consuming national currency resources at a rate that was unsustainable from the outset. I suppose there have been some benefits from the EU - straight bananas and the reclassification of carrots as fruit but it seems to me that major benefit is giving the population a single entity to unite against. For once DC has spoken sense - unfortunately, no more notice will be taken of him than there was when he spoke nonsense. The EU is a massive sty populated by the greediest and piggiest hogs within any (un)Civil Service. The EU is self monitoring and self regulating so the obscene excesses will not only continue, they will proliferate. Like so many good intentions, it has become one more paving stone on the road to Hell. |
