I'll make my own!

By Arthur Webster of Ask Old Coot

Normally I would make my own pasta but occasionlly I will buy ready-made.

It is very doubtful that I will ever buy ready-made lasagne, ever again.

About three months ago I was bought a pack made by a well known manufacturer but didn't use it. Since it was still sealed and well within its sell-by date I saw no harm in keeping it.

Today I decided that it would be a good idea to do a bean lasagne (someone gave me some beans - wasn't that nice of them!) and opened the lasagne packet to use it.

The pack was still sealed and there was no apparent damage to it and the sheets of lasagne semed to be in a vaccuum sealed bag. When I opened the bag I was bemused by holes and scrapes on the lasagne sheets. When I took the sheets out of the pack I found that there was an insect infestation and that they had been happily munching away in an apparent vaccuum!

I'm not very good at macro photography but I am attaching three images to show one adult, winged insect, several pupae and some the of scrapings that they had made in the lasagne. They had also drilled through the sheets but I couldn't get good enough images of the holes.

This was very annoying and a little shocking but, since I had opened the package, there is no way to make a claim against the manufacturer although I will send the pictures to them.

Good contribution, thank you.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Maybe the manufacturer decided to include a little extra "protein"?

I would look at the packet again, or at least the manufacturers website. Almost all food companies now have a consumer phone line you can contact for when you have issues with their products.
They want happy customers and you have rights for when you purchase products that 'are not up to saleable expectation'
