I had a dream
By Arthur Webster of Ask Old Coot
There is a new governemnt in the UK. It is a coalition (lash-up) between two parties that have very little in common except the desire to be in charge. They are talking about the need for spending cuts but, as with every moron that has ever aspired to government office in the UK for the past 40 years, they lack the nerve and imagination to make real cuts. The real nightmare is that the cuts they will make will be attacking the very basic subsistence of many UK citizens. Because of the total abdication of all aspects of national pride, this new government has inherirted a situation in which natural born Brits are for ever being pushed to the back of the queue for fear of 'infringeing the human rights' of illegal immigrants. This is not a very comfortable zone for many people because there is this over weaning feeling that nobody should ever be put in front of an immigrant - legal or not. The PC brigade has made all of us strangers in our own homes. It has even got to the stage now that legislation to control illegal (if you don't know the meaning of the word, look it up) immigration has given rise to riots and street protests in USA. The government of the UK can make immediate and enormous savings by many simple cuts:- 1 - stop all the quangos drawing massive funds in order to perpetuate themselves and build their empires 2 - make all benefits means tested so that those who need them get them. 3 - stop all foolish research and think tanks (do we really need to spend money to find out which side of the toilet roll the trailing edge should hang?) 4 - cut all nuclear defence spending and accept that the British nuclear deterrent does not exist - it is a peripheral adjunct to the mighty world destroying arsenal of the USA 5 - stop fighting in other countries until the streets of the UK are safe for people to walk down 6 - return management of government departments to people actually qualified to run them - especially those related to health and child care 7 - audit the civil service and find out what it does - there are far too many faceless wonders running huge departmental empires simply to build up their own importance. Performance of all departments should be monitored by independent experts using mystery shopper techniques 8 - abolish all party political conflicts and create a true coalition that will work in unison to get the best for the British public - all parties claim to know the answers but won't work together to introduce them. Dream on, Old Coot! Many British subjects will agree with these thoughts and many will wonder why they bothered to vote because, already, the knives are out and the old parliamentary troopers are out there trying to defend the indefensible. The coalition is already causing lines in the sand!

Oh... PC, PC, PC... Don't get me started. Just about all of us could ramble on about that for hours and hours. We are at the point where the few are dictating to the many what the many should do for the few. And many of the few feel that the many should bow down to the ideas of the few because the few feel that the many violate their right not to be among the many.

The point has arisen where the few don't dictate to the many, the many simply bow down to the few and accept all and any impositions.
Oh the irony. The new government is cutting out waste (well that's their stated intention) and what pops up in today's news? "The announcement of the new Office for Budget Responsibility – an independent body to do a health check on forecasts for growth and the public finances..." Hmm, I wonder how they get funded then? And I'm sure if they think hard enough they could then create another body to keep an eye on the Office for Budget Responsibilty.

It's jobs for the boys from the 'Off!', isn't it? Next we'll have the independent body to overseee the independent bodies being investigated by the panel for independent bodies expressing its concern that the independent bodies are not truly independent and that there should be a public inquiry. The public inquiry will be set up on cross party lines to ensure that it will not report before the end of the current government term. Having learnt from the setting up of the EU, the public inquiry will be delayed while the members of the panel decide what shape their table should be. Meanwhile, silly little accountants will not expose the sham of the 5% cut in ministers' salaries. With marginal tax rates as they are, it is possible that many ministers will actually be better off after the cut - demonstrating the falacy of more pay being better.
Is money as critical in the UK as it is here in the United States. Until we get the money out of politics, we are doomed.
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
While money is important, there isn't the possibility of a candidate 'buying' his position. We, in Europe, are in no doubt at all that the results in the presidential election reflect the amount of spending that each candidate was able to make for moron box publicity. Most European countries have a ruling that all political parties that contest an election are entitled to equal exposure in all media. This does give rise to complaints but at least the British know that the BNP had a fair chance of getting its message across and that it lost its seats because of the message - NOT because the message was not delivered through lack of funds.
Hear, Hear, Arthur! And your comments go just as well for us here in Australia. PC is taking over. Cheers Jean
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Hi, Jean, The chances are, though, that PC will work in Australia as it does in Europe. The Australian Aborigine population, being natural born, will never have the same rights as the illegal immigrant population - they too will be pushed to the back of the queue. The world has gone mad!
