Hypocrisy
By Arthur Webster of My Local Gazette
The more I look around the world in which we live, the more I am staggered by the sheer ignorance of apparently intelligent people. One of the great fields of human endeavour is the dissemination of religious "knowledge". This has been so for millions of years and mankind has had a long and weary battle to try to come to terms with 'why we are here'. History is replete with tales of savage genocides, victimisation, culling and intolerance. Why am I so disappointed that all of these millions of years of searching have not produced some sort of commonality in beliefs? Everywhere I look I find people who claim to not only know who god is, where he lives and what he wants but who also are on a mission to destroy belief systems that have been upholding the traditions of millenia. Still mankind is plagued with tiny minded people who must destroy before they can start preaching their own version of whatever religion they espouse. I suppose I am very lucky in that I am surrounded by people who have a healthy regard for the nature of God and are on a mission to discover His intentions for us. I am even more lucky that there is not this constant desire to convert at the point of a gun or at the nib of a poisoned pen wielded by a sick and ego-ridden mind. The modern fads are far more dangerous than some in the past because they are so destructive and so manipulative. They no longer simply slay the body or subjugate the mind. Modern communications make it possible for anybody who is so inclined to claim knowledge and then set themselves up as the portal through which god looks down at the earth and into our souls. Along with this massive ego trip come the further beliefs that become more and more often associated with 'modern' religious teaching. Now there are supposed to be immutable laws in the universe that only they know (buy the $97 ebook or join my course). Ever since the obscenity of 'The Secret' proliferated around the world there has been a massive increase in the most evil of all human activities - the attempted destruction of 'self'. These religious practices often come under the heading of 'self improvement' or even 'enlightenment' but let's just think about that. Is it really 'enlightening' for you to be told by someone who does not know you or has never even met you that you are doing it all wrong (buy the $97 ebook or join my course)? Look around you at ANY course or preacher who will tell you how to 'improve' your life. They are attractive to only two types of individual - those who are desperate because they know that life is not good or those who are gullible who can be convinced that 'they have not achieved their maximum potential'. These pseudo-religious cults work in a singular fashion. Before they can 'enlighten' you, they must first destroy everything within you that is contrary to the cult belief system. No matter how devout or knowledgeable your life time teachers have been, these cults desire only to wash your brain of all that you have held to be true and replace it with all that they, in their warped and evil manner, want to tell you is true (buy the $97 ebook or join my course). The drive behind all of these people is not enlightenment - it is money, plain and simple. The new way to make money is to become a guru and gather about you a coterie of psychophants and those without a substantial self awareness or self confidence. You must collect gullible people like some people collect Barbie dolls and, worst of all, you must make them pay for the information that you claim came from god. You must do your preaching from a pulpit built upon hypocrisy - after all, if god is going to provide for you as long as you ask him to (buy the $97 ebook or join my course), why would you need to charge for passing on what was freely given to you?. |

I still say if they can invent a car the runs on "hypocrisy" it could solve a lot of problems. Then again it is a hazardous material so that might not be possible.
Cults have been around practically forever and are not going to go away as long as there are gullible people who are just waiting to join them. Hypocrisy does not occur to these people. "Religion" is not important -- it is your relationship to God that matters. (Though as a Christian, I do have my own beliefs.) Whether you approach the concept of "self-help" from a Biblical standpoint or strictly from a holistic viewpoint, both views state that God has already given us the tools to help ourselves and to be all that we can be. The problem is that it seems to be hard for way too many of us to tap into what already exists. This is what brings out the charlatans who want to charge us "$97 dollars for my ebook."

I couldn't agree more. Maybe we should start a new solipsist movement with a God slant?
