God? Omnipotent?

There seems to be little sense in the way God works. I know that He works in mysterious ways when things seem to go wrong but why did He create mankind? If you accept that God has existed for ever and has neither a beginning nor an end, you have taken an enormous leap of faith. It is very difficult for human beings who live in a cyclical world to encompass the idea of permanence. If you then accept that God is omnipotent and all knowing - why on earth would He create something as insignificant and troublesome as mankind? It is likely that His creation of dinosaurs and other monstrous life forms was seen as 'incorrect' and like any child working in an exercise book, the error was erased and the work started again. But why create mankind? Are we, perhaps, the worms in a vermiculture container that has gone past its sell by date? Looking logically at the powers that God possesses, does it really make sense to create something so pathetically insignificant as mankind? Wouldn't an all powerful, all knowing God want to create something with which He can have a meaningful relationship? The idea that mankind was created to be tested on Earth before being admitted into a heavenly kingdom in which to sing His praises throughout eternity strikes me as putting a massive level of vanity and a huge ego into the personna of God. Does God not have the drive to 'do the best that He can'? Is this festering pool of protoplasm really His best effort? What possible pleasure can there be for God in listening to the prayers of disparate gatherings that cannot even agree among themselves what God is and what He wants us to do? If we accept that God did, indeed, create mankind, what was His reason? Did He forsee the evil that mankind would create and build into His plan the magnaminous sacrifice of his only begotten son? In the days before Jesus it was seen that God actually walked this earth and had a personal relationship with many of His favoured beings. The stories are legion of the aid that God gave directly to his chosen ones. After the sacrifice of His son, did He turn His back on us? Were we condemned because we had brought about the realisation of a prophecy? Since mankind is supposed to have been created in the image of God, it can be accepted (or not) that He has a physical existence - but WHERE? The limbs and sensory organs that we are replete with would seem to have no value to a God who, after all, intimately controls His own environment. Has He, after all, decided that his omnipotence grants him the power to create a being with whom He can have a more meaningful and rewarding relationship? Wouldn't you if you were omnipotent? |

I'm afraid that you're looking for a logical answer to something that is unknowable. We all suffer from man's explanations and man's interpretations of what God's purpose is. But none of that, in the end, matters a whit. I'm paraphrasing here, but in the book of Job, when Job finally gets around to complaining to God about all the things that had unjustly happened to him, God's response was something like: "Where were you when I created the heavens and the earth?". Mumble, mumble... In the end, God is God, and man is man.
